The National Instruments GPIB D2 (Part Numbers: 179194-20, 183285-0R2, 183285-02, 183285-01) Cable is a 20-inch interface accessory for NI GPIB-796, 796P, 961P, and SBX interfaces. This high-quality cable easily connects instruments with computers or control systems for perfect data transfer and communication over industrial and laboratory applications. The cable is engineered to specifically meet the requirements of the IEEE 488 Standard to ensure quality, fault-free performance even in the most demanding GPIB systems.
This product will be critical in constructing a sound communication path in GPIB configurations that require accuracy and dependability. Thereafter, the GPIB D2 Cable allows various instruments to become hooked up to a central unit and maintain optimum data interchanging capability. The maximum data transfer, however, may only be realized with regard to the restriction brought about by the IEEE 488 specification that the cable must not be more than 20 meters long; there should not be more than 4 metres between any two items on the bus; and the average separation shall be 2 meters over the bus. The system can support up to 15 devices such as the controller instruments provided at least two-thirds of these will remain turned on during operation.
While the maximum recommended cable length between devices is 4 meters, longer versions are user-selectable and could offer 8 meters in overall length for easier placement of devices. The penalty package is lower in transfer speed compared to those specified and is not compliant with IEEE specifications. In the case of those who want more devices connected and/or further distances without compromise on performance, National Instruments has bus extenders and expanders that exceed the limitations.
The GPIB D2 Cable comes at the RoHS standard level of environmentally friendly manufacture and is robustly built as well as precisely engineered; this makes it suitable in the cases where stable means of communication and control within a device are required.
